My name is James Arthur Goldberg, not to be confused with the late Supreme Court justice, Arthur J. Goldberg. I am 24 years old, and have lived in Provo, UT for about 2 years, although I still think of Columbus, Ohio as home.
Family status: I have two parents and four siblings. My father was born David Paul Goldberg, but was raised by his mother's parents and thus became known as David Paul Goldberg Westwood. I was born James Arthur Goldberg Westwood, but got tired of bureacratic confusions about my identity, since I had more names than fit on forms, and eventually fulfilled my grandfather's wish that someone carry on his name by dropping the Westwood. The only real downside is that people who know other members of my immediate family often fail to connect us.
The clans I come from are Goldbergs of L.A., orignally from Romania (back when it was still called Rumania); Westwoods from San Diego, CA; Gills from Dhudike, Punjab, India, now mostly living in Tulare County, CA; the Joseph and Vilo Pratt clan, colonistas who eventually left Mexico and whose descendents mostly reside in the U.S.A.
Occupation: I work now and then until I have enough money to do theatre and writing full-time, which I do until I'm almost out of money. Repeat cycle. I am currently also working on applications to BYU and U of U MFA Creative Writing programs. (BYU's program is not currently an MFA, but I've heard rumors they might switch).
Connection to Mormon Literature: I'm woefully undereducated in what already exists, but am trying to do better at that. Have helped produce 47 short plays by LDS writers over the past year. Have a distinct and developing vision for what kind of literature I think our community needs.
I've only been on the list for a year or so, but enjoy some of the theoretical debates about the role of Mormon letters in Mormon culture.

I've heard those rumors, too (about the BYU MFA).

You know an awful lot about your family history for such a young whippersnapper.

And James is one downright decent indiviudal. Heckuva a guy!

Upon the stage of a theater can be represented in character, evil and its consequences, good and its happy results and rewards; the weakness and the follies of man, the magnamity of virtue and the greatness of truth. The stage can be made to aid the pulpit in impressing upon the minds of a community an enlightened sense of a virtuous life, also a proper horror of the enormity of sin and a just dread of its consequences. The path of sin with its thorns and pitfalls, its gins and snares can be revealed, and how to sun it (Discourses of Brigham Young, p.243; Bookcraft, 199cool

.

I noticed on the memberlist that you have negative ten posts, Mr Goldberg. How in the world did you manage that?

Oh, Mr. Goldberg's inaccurate post count is my fault. His review of The Plan was snagged and multiplied by a badly placed moderation gate. I deleted the duplicates, which seems to have created the negative post count.

I'll go correct the stats now. edited to add: uh, I can't fix anyone's post count stats. it's either not possible, or I'm not at this point clever enough.
