Hello. I am Mariah Smith, age 58. I first became acquainted with AML about 4 years ago, but then life stresses intervened. I have just come back to reading AML when I can find a little time. I was born and raised in Alberta Canada, but have pioneer roots planted along the entire length of Utah I-15. I have recently moved to Utah and am trying to balance my scribe passion (FH work) with my creative writing one (scribe having prevailed for the past few years). I help care-give a 93-year old mother and am hoping that the oasis of this move can last as long or longer than my numerous projects.

I know what you mean about the balance between scribe and creative writer! Family history work can be all-consuming! Last year I finished a 5 year project of typescripting my grandparents' journals from their first 5 years of marriage. They used those little 5 yr diaries and were pretty faithful in keeping them daily. We had so much fun looking at what each one said for particular days (ie my mom's birthday etc.) that I typed it up in a he said/she said format with his entries on the left side of the page and hers on the right. I had a blast doing the appendices too. It ended up being pretty huge. And it was so fun that I let it gobble up a lot of my writing time. So when I finished it I had to hold myself back from starting on my great-grandfather and great-great grandfather's letters. So much fun stuff to do!
