I am addicted to new short plays. Thank you New Play Project for feeding my addiction. I'm glad I caught closing night, because it isn't always easy to get my fix. Melissa Leilani Larson sums it up in Cherry Pie. Artists have no choice; they have to do what they do. Trying to make her art accessible, Joanna a passionate artist has crossed the line. She and her friend Adam are running from the police. Adam doesn't even like Joanna's art, but he understands her passion and her need and he respects her courage. Adam is precious. He loves unconditionally and wants only to be kind and helpful. With a great sense of humor how can he fail, but will it be enough to save them? Adam gets it and so does Melissa Leilani Larson.

Repeating History by James Goldberg has an important message and is very clever and extremely well done, but his play Deconstruction bears a message that we can use, NOW. Jess and Ben are both nice young people surviving in a marriage that is slowly falling apart. Ben introduces the analogy of his trying to deconstruct a family farm building one board at a time and finds himself standing on the very last board. How like their marriage. Neither of the partners has done the small things needed to build the relationship. Each has played a part in surely tearing it down one board at a time. Loving each other is not enough. Will we wake up and see what we are doing to build up and tear down our relationships?

Darkwatch by Christina Phillips is about spending a lifetime hopelessly committed to a useless cause. How often do we waste our precious lives slavishly devoted to principles that are faux.

Davey Morrison's play Adam and Eve is a play that is good enough to stand alone. With just a little padding it can be a work that is well worth that trip to the theater. I loved every minute of it. For me, it worked on every level. The writing, directing and acting was right on. This play explores the feelings of Adam and Eve after their ejection from the garden. Of course Adam is anxious to get about the business of multiplying and replenishing. Eve on the other hand has some interest, but is a bit overwhelmed and confused by it all. Earthly guilt has colored her feelings and that coupled with PMS has made life untenable for Adam. No matter what he does or says it is all wrong. It rings so true and is so charmingly presented that I expect this piece must have been inspired by The Great All-seeing All-knowing Muse. Adam and Eve work through their challenge in a believable way. In a very tender moment they both confess that they miss their father.

The Fatted Dragon by Katherine Gee is a farce about low self esteem. It is funny and has some good lines.

Tree of Blood by Ben Crowder is a thriller warning us not to dig too deep in our family history unless we are prepared for what we may find.

Good job, New Play Project.
